Sleep is a vital part of a child’s cognitive, emotional and physical development and overall health. Sleep has such and important part in our daily well being, it help build our immune system as well as helping with our memory and giving our brain a detox of unwanted chemicals overnight.
Even with over 20 years experience with children of all ages I was not prepared for how sleep deprivation would affect me once my twins arrived. With multiple night wakings, very little quality napping and early rising I felt as if I spent my first 9 months of their lives feeding or trying to get them to sleep. I vividly remember sitting feeding my son at 10pm one night and not knowing how I was going to get through the feed, my whole body hurt and i could hardly stay awake, this scared me as I was putting my child in danger, it was at this point I knew it was time to make some changes. With some gentle and mindful sleep training methods we were able to change our twins sleep habits and within a very short space of time we had fantastic sleepers and we were happy, rested and the contented family we had dreamed of being.
Settling to sleep in a learnt skill and due to all children having different temperaments not all children can pick this skill up naturally, instead they need a little help. We got our lives back
Our son slept through the night from 3 months old, we were the envy of all of our friends and in 3.5years had probably only a handful of disturbed nights. Then for some reason things changed. Our amazing sleeper was suddenly needing us to sit with him at bedtime, then that escalated to needing us to hold his hand, then he started waking multiple times a night and coming into our room, often even our bed. We knew we shouldn’t let him but equally we knew it was the easiest way to get sleep!
We then had another baby and the sleep deprivation was unreal, as soon as we got baby settled we had our 4 year old waking us and he was taking sometimes up to 2 hours to resettle. We were exhausted.
I got in touch with Vickie only a matter of weeks ago and I am sitting here now knowing that I will get near on a full night sleep tonight (other than the 6 month old still waking here and there!).
As a parent you are so emotionally involved that you can’t take the step back to see what needs to be done, you feel cruel for getting angry with your child and you feel bad for saying no if they want to come into your bed and cry when you march them back to their room.
Vickie showed us that it was all normal and manageable and the best thing she said was that the behaviour was all about what he wanted rather than what he actually needed so not to feel bad about changing it and him being upset about the change. We made a plan and despite a couple of blips (again as the parent you get too emotional about it and we relaxed the process too much too early so he reverted back, Vickie got us back on track though) we are now all sleeping again.
Our son is much better behaved and more attentive and we can actually function like normal human beings! Thank you Vickie for giving us our lives back!

9 Month old waking up to 10 times a night!
Freya’s terrible sleep began when she was around 6 months old and we could see no end in sight. She had become a terrible sleeper waking anywhere between 2 – 10 times per night. Some occasions she would be awake for hours and nothing seemed to settle her but cuddles. She only seemed to sleep while being held and every time she was placed back in her cot it was a guess as to whether or not she would wake again and whether it would be minutes or hours before I was back in rocking/cuddling her to sleep. We had spent far too long desperately willing this ‘phase’ to end, trying various tips and tricks read online or suggested by friends. It was so confusing trying to figure out what was best and why the things that had worked so well with our first daughter were having no impact with Freya. We were all sleep deprived and it was having such an impact on our lives and well-being.
When Freya was 9 months old, we started working with Vickie. I was feeling quite apprehensive but thanks to her amazing knowledge, positivity and understanding I started to believe that things would improve. And they really did improve!! The technique was perfect for our family – at no point did I feel my daughter was in distress and my anxiety when dealing with night wakings was much better too as I actually had a plan! Freya’s sleep improved dramatically and at a much quicker pace than I could have dreamed of. Even the first night was better than any we had experienced in weeks! In a matter of days, Freya was only waking a few times and now she sleeps through for nearly 12 hours each night. The difference is amazing and we are back to normal family life! Vickie is so friendly and supportive and she really understands how difficult it can be when you are sleep deprived! I cannot recommend her enough – Thank you Vickie!
